The Ballard Finance Team has an opportunity for a Corporate Accountant to be a key member of its Finance Team, assisting in its financial reporting requirements at the corporate head office in Burnaby. The position reports to the Manager, Corporate Reporting and has the following responsibilities and requirements:
Responsibilities:
- Performing month-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and accounting analysis for the corporate head office and wholly owned subsidiaries
- Supporting the preparation of monthly consolidated results, quarterly & annual external financial statements (including note disclosures) and Management's Discussion & Analysis ("MD&A"), and other publicly disclosed documents
- Completing detailed financial analysis of financial statement accounts (including detailed variance analysis on a quarterly basis)
- Providing various Treasury support including bank account maintenance and administration, letter of credit preparation, etc.
- Ensure internal controls for responsible areas are performed in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley ("SOX")
- Compiling and analyzing data to support financial analysis and reporting
- Maintaining lease continuity schedule and analyzing the accounting treatment of the leases by assessing lease contracts
- Preparing reports for Statistic Canada and other government documentation.
- Opportunities to work on other ad hoc and special projects, as needed
Requirements:
The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent analytical skills, which are grounded in a strong understanding of technical accounting concepts, and can adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and advanced Excel skills will round out the successful candidate.
- Either working towards or has obtained professional accounting designation (CPA - CA or CGA)
- 3-5 years work experience in accounting
- Excellent analytical abilities, high attention to detail, and ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Takes ownership and is results oriented, with a focus on quality
- Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to connect accounting concepts to processes and daily transactions
- Public company reporting and experience with multi-currency companies is preferable
- Strong software skills with both accounting systems and the Microsoft suite of products. Advanced Excel skills required. Experience with Oracle ERP is an asset.
- Ability to multi-task with effective time management and organizational skills are critical
