Ballard's Manufacturing Engineering Team has a position available for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in our Burnaby facility. The successful candidate should have a track record of improving existing processes. Experience in process design and continuous improvement projects using tools and methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, QFD, FMEA, DOE, SPC, and Error Proofing is preferred.
Responsibilities: - Design, document, and implement new manufacturing processes for new products.
- Identify and carry out projects to improve existing manufacturing capability, yields, and capacity.
- Review assembly drawings and test specifications, and markup feedback to design team.
- Identify design improvements for DFMA and communicate effectively back to design team.
- Carry out FMEA analysis, and produce process documents (Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Control Plan, Work Instructions, and Checklists).
- Design floorplan layouts, and commission new or modified testing area's
- Design, source, and validate tools, jigs, fixtures, and test equipment (include drafting requirements, RFI, RFQ, conducting GRR and time studies).
- Generate, maintain, and update engineering documentation, including standard operating procedures, specifications, flow diagrams, and test reports
- Report out of testing results to internal and external customers
- Ownership of production testing process for fuel cell stacks & modules
- Test station commissioning, troubleshooting, and qualification.
- Data review and analysis of fuel cell stacks & modules in production setting
- Test equipment troubleshooting for either mechanical or electrical systems.
- Development and use of advanced diagnostic techniques for evaluation of fuel cell stack & system performance.
- Preparation of reports for quality conformity assessment of the product
Requirements: - Diploma in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years experience in both an industrial and product development setting.
- Experience in new product introductions and qualifications
- Good knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow design and selection of mechanical components is an asset.
- Proven ability to work to time schedule and commitments for deliverables; determine the scope of work and plan effectively to meet those commitments.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with your hands.
- Practical experience with mechanical and electrical systems is highly preferable.
- Previous background with fuel cells and/or fuel cell systems is highly preferable.
