Position Description
Reporting directly to the Head of Design, the Motorcycle Designer is responsible for ideation, concept development and production design development of motorcycles and other vehicles. Their principal focus is to invent vehicles using a human factors based approach in collaboration with the engineering teams. These vehicles will serve Damon's business needs and facilitate the vehicle technical requirements.
As a member of the specialized motorcycle concept team, the Motorcycle Designer is expected to have an exceptional understanding of the global motorcycle market, it's cultures and trends, as well as a solid foundation of motorcycle engineering and technology. They must be able to communicate easily with engineering and marketing colleagues to present their ideas and defend design quality with reason.
The designer is expected to use creativity and exceptional artistic skill to invent and develop new vehicle concepts, using both classical (drawing, rendering, clay modelling) and digital platforms. Principal daily focus in on 3D ideation and development of form, with special emphasis placed on respecting the mechanical package. Design challenges must be solved using a creative solution-based approach, backed by factual data whenever possible, or reasonable subjective views backed by visual or physical modelling.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Motorcycle design.
- Marketing - Design liaison.
- Market research and design benchmarking.
- Supporting product design activities.
- Supporting design studio operations.
Position Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in vehicle industrial design, Masters in Vehicle design/related field is an asset.
- At least 1-year professional motorcycle design experience.
- Fluent in contemporary digital design tools (CS, 3D CAD modelling, analog rapid visualization skills.
- High degree of 3D clay modelling skill.
- High degree of fluency in contemporary motorcycle and vehicle design, trends, and markets.
- Understanding of fundamental motorcycle engineering and technology.
- Exceptional communication skills, verbal, written and visual.
- Fluent in English.
