Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.
Position Overview:
General Fusion is seeking an Optical / Laser Technician to provide technical support to prototype, align, and maintain Reactor test diagnostics equipment, including laser systems. The Technician will also help free Diagnosticians from day-to-day lab operations and maintenance to focus on design and development. The successful Technician will minimize laser diagnostics downtime due to misalignment and ensure laser diagnostics provide quality data (stable, high signal level)
Key Responsibilities:
- Laser alignment
- Calibration tasks
- Checking the data to watch for signs of misalignment.
- Install and maintain laser optics on test rigs
- Build and maintain fibre optics signal transmission
Required Skills and Experience:
- Familiar with the safety of advanced laser equipment
- Basic electronics troubleshooting (DMM, oscilloscope usage, etc.)
- Procuring optics (Thorlabs, Edmund, etc.), managing optics layout, handling optics
- Basic machine shop skills
- Preferred but not required:
- Experience with automation of laser alignment tasks
- Experience with laser repair, debugging, optimization
- Able to develop new solutions to technical problems independently and in a group
- Adaptable to changes in requirements
- Good communicator
- Well organized, good attention to detail
- Self-motivated
- Desire to learn and document lessons learned
- Ability to design quick, effective mechanical solutions for day-to-day problems
Education:
- BA in related field (electrical / Mechatronics Engineering Physics) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Any Specific Lab Technician training is considered an asset.
