Position Overview:
General Fusion's technology development program relies on the rapid prototyping and testing of large-scale, energetic systems. General Fusion maintains a dynamic, multi-disciplinary prototype and testing laboratory for this purpose.
The position of Lab Coordinator enables the coordinated rapid development of our technology in a safe and efficient manner by providing support services to all laboratory stakeholders - including the Technology Development, Facilities, Materials and Health and Safety teams.
You must be capable of building and maintaining strong working relationships across all teams and proactively identifying needs and delivering solutions for the teams they support
This is a hands-on role that requires an individual who can work independently while providing a high level of service for the teams they support. This role requires individuals who can operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the lab and materials warehouse to ensure the safety and efficiency of the workplace
- Partner with technical groups to coordinate storage of laboratory equipment and warehouse items.
- Maintain inventory of common consumables such as fasteners and fittings, and supply on-demand materials when appropriate.
- Maintain common safety equipment and stock of safety supplies.
- Monitor condition and stock of hand tools and cutting tools (drill bits, saw blades, etc.)
- Maintain inventory and orderliness of distributed tool chests and workshop
- Coordinate and oversee contractors for infrastructure maintenance
- Manage hazardous material inventory (such as solvents and paints), waste inventory lifecycle and coordinate disposal and record keeping.
- Coordinate the moving of equipment where appropriate.
- Provide maintenance and technician services to teams where required.
Relevant Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Technical background with experience in a light or heavy industrial environment
- Solid understanding of mechanics
- Fabrication, carpentry, machining and assembly skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong aptitude for building relationships and fostering a team dynamic
- Confident and able to interact with a broad range of people, including scientists, engineers, fabricators, technicians and contractors
- Proven capacity for problem-solving.
- Ability to work to exacting standards and tolerances.
- Multi-tasking and prioritization skills
- Desire to learn new skills and processes
Preferred:
- Technician experience in technology development
- Materials management experience
- PC and MS Office Application Skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
