We're on the hunt for a Manager, Program Planning and control to join our team at our Richmond office.
Reporting to the Finance Director of GEOIntelligence (currently largest Business Area within MDA), the Manager, Program Planning & Control is responsible for leading and guiding a team that integrates seamlessly with the business operations to provide management oversight, program planning and analytical support to the program business areas within GEOintelligence Business Area, including internal program management reporting and program planning pricing and control. This role works with the business operations teams with a focus on internal program accounting and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management Reporting
- Prepare on a monthly basis a consolidated report of new work bookings and forecast work to come to the end of the year and for three future years, including analysis of variances and trends.
- Prepare monthly report on the results of operations including analysis of variances to budgets and project forecasts.
- Ensure all Business Areas' management information is prepared on a timely and accurate basis.
- * Work as a team with the GEOintelligence Business Area management team (VP, Director of Operations, Managers etc.) to provide necessary financial support, identify financial solutions for business operations, identify and help to solve risks as early as possible, and generally advise business management on financial issues.
- Budgets:
- Coordinate the annual plan and budgets for the programs by business area.
- Work closely with Business Unit Directors and Operations Directors and the accounting team to prepare and coordinate the monthly project and program projections for the business. This includes projections for revenue, earnings, cash flows, and foreign currency requirements.
- Help to identify risks (downsides/upsides) with budgets, particularly forecasts, and then work with business management to identify and implement potential solutions.
Operational Finance:
- Participate as part of the business management (including operations management) team contributing to the operational success of the operating unit and its business units
- Responsible for ensuring project estimates, pricing sheets and proposals are prepared in accordance with the corporate policy and ensuring appropriate rates and assumptions are being applied.
- Responsible for ensuring project forecast reports reflect the expected results of the project including an analysis of the financial impact of risk and opportunities in each project.
- Identify financial impact of changes in the execution of a project, project scope and its schedule.
- Assist in managing project and program exposure to all risks as they impact financial performance and specifically foreign exchange risk and the operational aspects of hedge accounting; Ensure compliance with company policy.
- Liaise with business unit operational and financial management to provide financial advice and expertise, assess financial metrics, reporting needs and requirements.
- Responsible for the adequacy and continuous improvement of tools and processes while complying with established C-SOX procedures and internal control policies.
- Provide ad hoc reports and financial analyses for management as required Staff Leadership:
- Provide leadership, vision, career growth, supervision and support to the Project Accounting team to maintain a strong teamwork vision in support of the business operations
- Manage overall staffing levels according to business requirements.
- Support individual staff member career growth including performing annual performance reviews and set performance objectives for the Project Accounting team. Train and develop staff to ensure the department is able to meet the project accounting needs of the business.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Professional accounting designation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-10 years related experience, preferably in the engineering, systems or construction industry.
- Team experience including participation and leadership
- Solid understanding of Aerospace & Defence type contracts
- Sound knowledge of finance and accounting theory and fundamentals, general accounting systems, and project cost accounting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and staff.
- Strong leadership skills and demonstrated success in managing and motivating a large team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Committed to meeting deadlines in a constantly changing environment.
- Experience with standard costing and overhead models as well as a thorough understanding of accounting for long-term complex contracts.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to organize, evaluate and present complex financial data in a detailed, fast-paced and multi-project environment
- Knowledge of project management process.
- Excellent computing skills including financial modeling and spreadsheet preparation.
- Able and willing to work extended hours as needed.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Successful candidate(s) must be able to obtain and hold security clearance at the Secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program.
