The Position
We're on the hunt for a Product Owner/Systems Engineer, to be a part of the next generation of vessel
detection and intelligence products.
Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring
northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the
environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise
geospatial systems and defence programs.
As a member of the Engineering team you will work on our programs such as the CHORUS Synthetic
Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio
telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Maritime Insights products. You will work as part of a
technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our
customers.

Role
As part of the product owner/systems engineering team, you will participate with our cross functional,
multi-disciplined team in developing cutting-edge solutions to deliver end-to-end missions for our
customers.
Responsibilities
As a Product Owner/Systems Engineer, you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include:
- Development Readiness and Support
o Develop User Stories for all new functionality and improvements of existing features
o Create usage diagrams and mockups for new features
o Support Production Team Leads for the preparation of Technical Stories for architectural
enhancements and technical debt/refactoring efforts
o Present user stories to the teams in grooming sessions, ensuring that the acceptance
criteria for new features and improvements are clear.
o Ensure the implementation of the solutions follow the agreed upon design
o Ensure user stories are ready for development prior to Sprint, beginning with all
necessary functional and non-functional details
o Be available to provide advice, clarification, and guidance to development teams during
the execution of each Sprint - Prioritization & Planning
o Support release planning activities by providing level of effort estimates for features.
o Ensure that the Product Backlog is constantly prioritized to secure delivery of maximum
business value defined by Business & Product Management
o Facilitate defect triage sessions to prioritize defect tickets against release/sprint
planning - Acceptance & Sign-off
o Engage customers and end users through product demonstrations and customer
surveys and incorporate feedback into designs.
o Evaluate and provide feedback to development teams on completed work and
determine when features are ready to ship - Product Knowledge
o Develop subject matter expertise in the relevant product domains. It is expected that
the PO will quickly become an expert in the product from a feature/functionality
perspective
o Act as product champion and present designs and released work to the business
development teams, training & support personnel, and customers.
o Document new features, including release notes and online documentation
o Prepare and conduct internal training sessions for various team members of differing
levels and disciplines, including senior management
Required Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Math, Physics, or
a combination of related education and experience; - 10 or more years working in a large product development or systems engineering environment;
- Experience in different types of engineering life cycles as applicable from large complex
programs to software development; - Familiarity with modern software development methodology, tools, and software specification;
- Possess excellent problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to explain concepts to wideranging audiences (e.g. technical team, sales team, executives, customers, etc); and
- The ability to work within a large organization and understand dependencies and stakeholder
needs. Desired Experience: - A strong understanding of geographical data and the utilization of SAR remote sensing imagery
- Experience in analysis of complex research tasks with algorithm development and
implementation; and - Digital signal processing and Image processing experience;
