We are on the hunt for an Intermediate Integration, Verification and Validation Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment in our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our Richmond office.
Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.
As a member of the Integration, Verification and Validation team you will have the opportunity to work on programs such as the Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Maritime Insights products. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

Intermediate Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment
Role:
As part of the Ground Segment Systems Integration, Verification and Validation team, the individual will work with other engineers in a multi-disciplinary team environment to create and deliver engineering solutions to control satellites, downlink imagery and telemetry, process imagery, create value-added products and process orders from our customers in a cost-effective way.
Responsibilities:
As an Intermediate Integration, Verification and Validation Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment, you will have a wide range of responsibilities that may include:
- Deploying and configuring subsystems in support of factory and on-site integration, verification and validation (IV&V) activities;
- Developing nominal and non-nominal scenarios to test subsystem-to-subsystem interfaces and end-to-end (i.e. multi-subsystem) flows;
- Developing test data, scripts, tools and procedures to support IV&V activities, including manual and automated test procedures for formal requirement verification;
- Reporting and documenting software and system issues encountered during IV&V activities;
- Recommending overall system improvements (robustness, usability, performance, and maintainability);
- Conducting formal factory and on-site verification activities using formal test procedures;
- Witnessing system and subsystem-level verification events;
- Working with MDA's software development teams to integrate and test operational features;
- Witnessing and accepting subsystem-level verification events, including analyzing test results;
- Interacting and collaborating with internal (subsystem engineering/development teams) and external stakeholders (customer, QA, GS/Mission-level engineers and managers); and
- Traveling to other MDA and customer sites to participate in IV&V activities, as required by the project.

Required Experience:
- A university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline;
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a software engineering environment;
- 2 or more years working in a large product development or systems engineering environment with complex software and system requirement specifications;
- Prior involvement in:
- Developing test or simulation scripts/tools in Python (using pytest) for software applications;
- Integrating multiple systems and/or verifying system requirements;
- Developing or testing of cloud-based and/or container-based applications (using Docker, Kubernetes and AWS);
- Working in Windows and Linux environments;
- Agile development methodology and CI/CD (using Jenkins);
- Familiarity with modern software development methodology, tools, and software specification;
- Ability to adapt emerging technologies and apply best practices;
- Possess excellent problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
- Be a self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic working environment;
- Have a team-friendly attitude and willingness to learn.
While not mandatory, candidates will benefit from any of the following:
- Understanding of different types of engineering life cycles as applicable from large complex programs to software development;
- Ability to work within a large organization and understand dependencies and stakeholder needs;
- Familiarity with satellite remote sensing or earth observation; and
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics, satellite communications, spacecraft design, operational considerations, and maintenance.
