Based in Burnaby, BC, Orbital Research designs and builds frequency conversion products for the most challenging SATCOM conditions on the planet - sandstorms, snowstorms and everything in between. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented Electro / Mechanical CAD Technician. A CAD Designer with a passion for Mechanical and Electrical Design, you have experience supporting mechanical and electrical concepts, packaging design or redesign of racks, chassis and products. You will be expected to deliver 2D/3D drawings and models and support the introduction of the new designs to the engineering and production teams and our suppliers. The CAD Designer supports development of mechanical and electrical concepts, packaging design or redesign of our frequency converters, interface products and rack and antenna mounted systems.
The role:
- Develop and deliver accurate 3D models and 2D drawings suitable for manufacturing
- Interface with Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing and Systems Engineers for design development
- Level 1 Check of drawings for accuracy and compliance with standard practices
- Support preparation of procedures and work instructions for product fabrication
- Support preparation, development and sustainment of CAD standards, work instruction and operational procedures
- Create conceptual drawings and renderings for Sales Proposals, Brochures and website
- Follows workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines.
- Some hands on modifying, QC checking and hand assembly of new designs.
You bring:
- 2 or 3 year college diploma with technical training in 3D modeling drafting
- 2 to 3 years of experience with a product focus on a multi discipline team
- Skilled with SolidWorks/AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical
- Change management tools such as PDXpert
- Working knowledge of ASME Y14 Engineering drawing practices
- Design for assembly and manufacturing
- Manufacturing processes for CNC, sheet metal, machined and welded parts
- Experience with work/assembly instructions/drawings development
- Drafting experience which should include wiring diagrams for electrical/electronic system (architectural exp OK).
- Familiarity and exposure to Solidworks PDM
- Some exposure to EE CAD e.g. Altium/PADS/OrCAD-Allegro, etc.
- InDesign (nice-to-have)
