Job Summary
We have an opportunity for a Senior IT Network Engineer to join our IT team in our Richmond, BC headquarters. In this role, you will be responsible for the Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Network Security (Firewalls), load balancing and WAN Acceleration. You will facilitate continuous uptime of the network and IT infrastructure by providing third level technical support in a 24/7 operational environment in a 'hands-on fashion' and contribute with valuable ideas to future expansions and system optimization. You will provide leadership and have ultimate responsibility for the technical implementation, administration and support of Sierra Wireless' Corporate WAN and LAN and security infrastructure.
This is a "Level 3 service/network ownership role", responsible to deliver continuously improving uptime outcomes in a 24/7 operational environment through "hands-on" practices.
This role includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule and will have a hybrid work arrangement with 1 day per month in the office or as required for meetings.
Responsibilities
- Design, installation, and maintenance of Local and Wide Area networks
- Development of our data center architecture and related disaster recovery/business continuity plans
- Participate in the installation and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and enterprise applications
- Regular tracking and reporting of key performance metrics
- Development of training and troubleshooting procedures for Help Desk personnel
- Third level (expert) technical support in a 24/7 operational environment
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Minimum five years of experience in LAN/WAN and Windows server administration
- Extensive experience in the following areas: Cisco routing and switching, Palo Alto Firewall, BigIP F5, Silver Peak and Azure VNet and networking concepts VMware virtualization, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
- Strong problem-solving, planning, multi-tasking, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science or equivalent experience
Desired Education, Experience & Skills
- CCNA certification
- CISSP or other security certification
- Extensive experience in the following areas: Cisco routing and switching, Firewall, BigIP F5, Silver Peak and Azure VNet and networking concepts VMware virtualization, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
- Experience with common IT security management frameworks and standards: COBIT, ISO2700x, PCI, etc.
- Experience deploying and managing Microsoft Exchange On-Line, HP Blade infrastructure, NetApp Storage Solutions, F5 BIGIP, Checkpoint firewalls, or Aruba Wireless networks
- Linux operating systems (Ubuntu/Debian/RedHat, NIS/LikeWise Authentication)
