Our WFS Calgary team is part of a global community of component designers and manufacturers, application specialists and technology researchers. Our team's focus is on leading edge engine control technology for OEM vehicle Manufacturers in cost sensitive international markets with aggressive exhaust emission standards and regulations. Demand for engine controllers, the heart of an engine control system, has increased dramatically creating a unique growth opportunity that also fuels demand for other Westport components such as fuel pressure regulators, fuel injectors, and fuel tank valves.
Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Project Manager Engineer to join our Calgary team. As a highly motivated self-starter it will be your responsibility to execute, with our industry partners, the identification and execution of new business development opportunities as well as manage the technical and commercial aspects of customer projects.
Our Ideal candidate will be able to help manage new business opportunities for our Westport Products in a customer-facing role, facilitate strong partnerships between cross-functional teams, develop and track detailed schedules, and actively manage scope within the approved budget for existing Indian-market customers. To succeed, you will bring an engineering background with a demonstrated track record of supporting sales growth, significant knowledge of automotive engine control systems and market awareness in this area. In addition, the right candidate will have strong customer-service and interpersonal skills with a passion for delivering engine technology offerings.
Position Responsibilities
Technical, Project and Commercial Management
- Manage technical and commercial aspects of customer projects
- Interface with and support customer engineers and project personnel and liaise with Westport engineers to help manage resources and exceed customer expectations
- Provide project management, including interface with customers and the development of project scope, schedule, and budgets
- Collaborate with regional managers, enhance market reconnaissance and prediction of customer requirements and expectations as a feed-forward tool for our product development teams
- Travel and cultivate relationships with current and prospective customers
- Be comfortable with a broad general management role, collaborating with and guiding multiple corporate disciplines when required
- Assist in identifying and developing business cases for growing global gaseous fuel opportunities
Health & Safety Responsibilities

Position Requirements
The suitable candidate will bring strong technical and commercial experience, including:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer, electrical or mechanical engineering
- Minimum 3 years in automotive engine control systems sales, customer support or business development
- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) automotive engine control systems knowledge including combustion, emissions control, in-vehicle communication, and on-board diagnostic systems
- Experience with global and domestic cultural and business priorities, practices, and expectations
- Highly customer-service driven: leverages strong interpersonal skills when reporting to partners and customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to collaborate well within a team
- Able to periodically travel internationally and domestically
- Proactive planning capabilities and a creative, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
- Ability to understand complex problems, synthesize and present to a wide audience
- Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
- High level of autonomy and initiative taking
Work structure:
- Primarily onsite in Calgary office; position requires direct collaboration with design and project engineers
- Able to participate in internationally time-zoned virtual meetings and calls - may require some evening and early morning availability
