Overview
In this exciting role as the Manager, Research and Business Initiatives in the Office of Learning, Leading, Sharing, you will be instrumental in developing and delivering new vision for research at WorkSafeBC.
Working closely with the Senior Manager and Chief Planning Officer, you will be responsible for managing the team and operations of the WorkSafeBC research grants program, environmental scanning, corporate partnerships and other departmental initiatives.
You will work collaboratively with operational divisions and corporate partners in other organizations to ensure WorkSafeBC has access to best practices, research and other business intelligence to underpin evidence-based strategies, initiatives and programs.
You will also be responsible for communications with divisional leaders including the Enterprise Leadership Team, Board of Directors, key external worker and employer stakeholders and the research community.
At this time, this is a hybrid position where you will work primarily at home and be on-site at our Richmond office occasionally. This is a temporary role for 18 months.
What you'll do
As the Manager, Research & Business Initiatives you will:
- Develop and implement the strategic vision for areas of responsibility including, optimizing, growing and managing the research grants program, overseeing the corporate grants program and developing and implementing an ongoing process to scan the external environment to gather insights to support development of WorkSafeBC strategies and programs.
- Collaborate with researchers, national and international networks of regulators and compensation agencies, national and international associations, stakeholders, internal departments and divisions to ensure WorkSafeBC has the best evidence to inform corporate strategies and initiatives
- Act as a contact for key stakeholders, ensuring consistent and meaningful engagement
- Develop and implement departmental strategic and business plans , taking a broad, organizational view to aligning ELT priorities and measures with divisional strategic initiatives
- Provide ongoing monitoring of departmental performance measures, take appropriate action to modify plans and redirect activities to meet departmental objectives
- Work with the senior divisional leaders to operationalize research and provide assurance to the ELT on outcomes of funded projects
- Engage with the BOD & ELT on matters related to funded projects, corporate grants and environmental scanning process
- Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, direction and management to a team of advisors to provide client-focused services while ensuring necessary administrative and technical resources and services are available to support staff in performing their duties

Provide support to staff as changes and new initiatives are implemented in the workplace.
Your experience and educational background:
- Master's degree in epidemiology, occupational hygiene, public policy, business administration or a related field; training or experience with research methods and knowledge of statistical and epidemiological analysis would be an asset
- Five years of people management experience
- Project management training and/or experience, and stakeholder engagement would be an asset
- Experience with knowledge translation and dissemination would be an asset
