Vancouver, March 6, 2017 (T-Net)--The BC Provincial Government has joined provinces across Canada with its Proclamation of March as “Youth Science Month” in BC.
British Columbia's future leaders of science and innovation are preparing to showcase their own creative science concepts and theories province-wide.
Supported by the Science Fair Foundation of BC, communities from 13 regions of the province will hold local science fairs in February, March and April where students will be selected for Team BC - to represent their region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, to be held in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 15 - 20, 2017.
In 2016, seventy-one finalists from throughout BC and the Yukon presented projects at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Montréal, QC and brought home 114 awards and scholarships including 5 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 20 bronze medals!
Austin Wang and Daniel O'Reilly received gold medals at the 2016 Taiwan International Science Fair. Mr. Wang went on to receive the top award at the 2016 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona. Elizabeth Schulz and Olivia Li returned from the 2017 Taiwan International Science Fair on in early February with silver and bronze medals.
"We are excited to see the creative and innovative projects that students will be presenting this year!" stated the BC Science Fair Foundation in a press release.
"The chance to travel to Regina and take part in such an event as significant as the national Canada-Wide Science Fair, and possibly qualify for international competitions, are great motivators for participants,” explains Madeleine Guenette, Director of Operations of the Science Fair Foundation of BC. “But Science Fairs are much more than just competition among students; they are a forum for thought, analysis and inspiration for the community at-large.”
