CATA Calls on Innovation Minister Bains to Adopt Open Data Digital Policies

Ottawa, ON, October 16, 2018--(T-Net)--CATAAlliance, and its consortium partners (i.e., Automotive Industries Association of Canada, Association of Canadian Car Rental Operators & Privacy & Access Council of Canada) have tabled a 13 page Submission to Canada's Innovation Minister, the Hon. Navdeep Bains led National Digital and Data Consultations through the lense of the Connected and Autonomous Vehicle sector.
CATA CEO, John Reid, said, " We chose to examine the questions raised by Minister from the perspective of vehicle generated data because the issue of how vehicle data is handled touches most of the key public policy questions pertaining to innovation and privacy of all sectors."
He added, " How we manage transformational mobility technologies directly affects Canadian innovation, investment, and job creation, as well as raise significant issues about how to best protect Canadians' data and privacy."
The Consortium submission pointed to an urgent need for the Canadian Government to establish basic ground rules that:
Additionally, CATA said it believes that the Canadian Government should establish a use case-based regulatory framework for in-vehicle data.
The consortium also advanced a model of what that legal framework might entail.
