Burnaby, BC, September 20, 2019--(T-Net)--OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) announced that it is now starting the development of the next generation ECPINS (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System for Warships) that will fully meet the Naval WECDIS Ed.3 requirements through a new modular approach.
This will allow existing users to add capability and new users to adopt a scalable approach to ECPINS without having to unlock its full potential immediately. This modular approach will create a more affordable price model and allow ECPINS adopters to scale their solution knowing that they can add capability in the future.
"We are committed to exceeding the highest industry standards at all times and have demonstrated our commitment through the continual development of ECPINS," stated Ken Kirkpatrick, President and CEO. "OSI already has the most advanced WECDIS on the market and this new development initiative will take ECPINS to a level that is even further out of the reach of our competitors."
ECPINS embodies the collective wisdom of NATO's naval experts regarding the safe navigation and situational awareness of warships. Since Warships operate in circumstances that extend beyond those envisioned by the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) standard, ECPINS goes far beyond ECDIS with capabilities that support such operations as high-speed navigation, prevention of mutual interference, precision pilotage, dived navigation, and operating in a GPS-denied environment.
Mr. Kirkpatrick continued, "OSI's investment in the WECDIS Ed. 3 development is a major undertaking, but we have the largest and most experienced engineering team in the industry on the job. In addition to the development program, we will have ECPINS independently certified to provide our customers with the necessary evidence, as we have done for WECDIS Ed. 2."
