Mitacs Awards Nominations Open; Two New Categories for 2019

Brightest up-and-coming research stars to be honoured during annual innovation ceremony, Nov. 26.
Vancouver, BC, September 9, 2019--(T-Net)--Mitacs announced it is now welcoming nominations for its 9th annual Mitacs Awards, honours that recognize outstanding students, fellows, and professors who have participated in the Mitacs Accelerate, Elevate, and Globalink programs.
Previous winners have been recognized for outstanding contributions that improve lives, including: research conducted to stop cancer metastasis, technology to improve brain-injury assessment, and technology that transforms carbon dioxide into fuel.
New for 2019, Mitacs announces two categories, the Indigenous and International awards, to be presented during the ceremony in Ottawa, Nov. 26.
Nominations for the 2019 awards are now open for the following categories:
Mitacs & NRC-IRAP Award for Commercialization:
Awarded to an intern for a research idea that has been, or will soon be, commercialized.
Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation — Indigenous:
Given to an indigenous student or postdoctoral fellow who has made a significant achievement in research and development innovation during their Mitacs-funded research. Priority shall be given to someone who has made significant achievement in Indigenous innovation.
Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation — International:
Given to an international student who has made a significant achievement in research and development through their Mitacs-funded Globalink or Accelerate International internship.
Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation — Master's:
Presented to a master's student who has made a significant achievement in research and development during their Mitacs-funded research.
Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation — PhD:
Given to a PhD student who has made a significant achievement in research and development during their Mitacs-funded research.
Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation — Postdoctoral:
Awarded to a postdoctoral fellow who has made a significant achievement in research and development during their Mitacs-funded research.
Mitacs Award for Exceptional Leadership — Professor:
Given to an academic supervisor with an exemplary record of:
