COVID-19: B.C. Continues Economic Recovery, Adding 55,000 Jobs in September - Unemployment Rate Falls 2.3% to 8.4% Last Month

Vancouver, BC, October 9, 2020--B.C. continues to recover from the pandemic shutdown, as employment grew by 55,000 in September, the fifth consecutive monthly increase, according to Statistics Canada. The province's unemployment rate fell 2.3 percentage points last month to 8.4 per cent from 10.7 per cent in August."That's a big decline and it's now lower than the national unemployment rate," said Andrew Fields, an analyst with Statistics Canada.
