North Vancouver, BC, July 14, 2020--(T-Net)--Enbala announced that its Concerto™ platform has received certification by the OpenADR Alliance under OpenADR 2.0a/b VTN.
The certification facilitates communication between the platform and a rapidly growing number and variety of grid-connected distributed energy resources (DERs).
The OpenADR Alliance standardizes, automates and simplifies demand response (DR) and DERs to enable utilities and aggregators to cost-effectively manage growing energy demand and decentralized energy production, and to help electricity customers better control their energy future.
Concerto, Enbala's real-time energy-balancing software platform, provides a highly flexible approach for creating controllable and dispatchable energy resources from flexible loads, energy storage and renewable energy sources - from both behind- and front-of-meter DERs. The platform underpins Enbala's award-winning and industry-leading virtual power plant (VPP) and distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) technology and dynamically optimizes and dispatches distributed energy resources to respond to the real-time needs of the power system.
"Integrating OpenADR's open standards into our Concerto platform helps utilities, energy retailers and their customers leverage a rapidly expanding number of distributed energy assets to keep the power grid stable and balanced, to hedge against high energy market prices and to reduce costs," noted Michael Ruth, Enbala vice president of product management.
The OpenADR standard provides energy suppliers with a standardized way to send fast, reliable and secure price and event messages to a wide variety of customer-installed equipment such as rooftop solar, onsite energy storage, electric vehicle charging stations and energy management systems.
"Enabling monitoring and control of smart energy resources on the grid, OpenADR offers an open, highly-secure and two-way information exchange model and global smart grid standard," said Rolf Bienert, managing and technical director, OpenADR Alliance. "Solutions based on industry standards such as OpenADR give customers greater control over their energy future and allows customers to easily add or subtract pieces of equipment that can participate in the programs such as new thermostats, batteries and other program-eligible equipment."
"Adopting the standard also encourages continued expansion of our partner ecosystem, enabling faster and flexible integration in energy demand reduction programs by energy customers and more widespread adoption of smart energy products," added Ruth.
"Our demand response program is designed to engage our customers using a variety of devices and curtailment service providers," said Eversource ConnectedSolutions Program Manager Joana Abreu. "By specifying the use of the OpenADR standard, we were able to materially reduce integration delays to the Enbala Concerto platform. This allowed for a smooth launch of the summer demand response season and a better experience for our customers."
