Hydra Energy Awarded Low Carbon Economy Challenge Partnerships Stream Grant from the Canadian Government to Accelerate Rollout of Hydrogen-powered Trucks & Reduction in GHG Emissions
Delta, BC, October 18, 2021--(T-Net)--Hydra Energy announced that it has recently has been awarded a $219,000 grant under the Government of Canada's Low Carbon Economy Challenge.
This funding will help accelerate Hydra's conversion of twelve heavy-duty trucks using the company's hydrogen-diesel co-combustion conversion kit resulting in a 67-tonnes reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per truck each year, equivalent to the average carbon footprint of over four Canadians.
By leveraging Canadian ingenuity, the Low Carbon Economy Challenge is providing $500 million towards partnerships that reduce carbon pollution, save money, and create good jobs. This is done in support of the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change that sets out Canada's plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Jessica Verhagen, CEO, Hydra Energy
"Hydra is tackling one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonize. Globally, it's estimated that heavy-duty trucking accounts for only 4% of the vehicles on the road, but 27% of road emissions. Hydra is grateful to the Government of Canada's Low Carbon Economy Challenge funding to enable us to quickly scale our solution that converts existing diesel Class 8 trucks to reduce GHG emissions by up to 40% by running partially on hydrogen", says Hydra's CEO, Jessica Verhagen.
If Hydra's unique Hydrogen-as-a-Service (HaaS) model is rolled out across Canada, there is a GHG reduction potential of up to 5.7 megatonnes of CO2 by 2030 according to a study by Navius Research. For the first time,heavy-duty fleets can help decrease carbon pollution without spending capital up front while benefiting from low-carbon hydrogen fuel on par with diesel pricing.
About Hydra Energy
Matching Hydrogen Fuel with Co-Combustion Engines
Hydra Energy is the world's first Hydrogen-as-a-Service provider for commercial fleets looking to reduce costs and emissions today with limited risk and no up-front investment.
The company's innovative approach sources green hydrogen and provides clean fuel to fleets at below-diesel prices, enabling a rapid and economical transition to cleaner trucking.
In exchange for long-term, discounted fuel contracts, Hydra quickly converts semi-truck fleets to a hydrogen injection system helping operators optimize truck performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions reduction regardless of payload and weather.
