Cascadia Gateway Announces Construction and Financing Deal with Quanta for High Density Fiber Optic Network to Connect Vancouver and Seattle
Tuesday, March 30, 2021
Vancouver, BC, March 30, 2021--(T-Net)--Cascadia Gateway Corp., together with its U.S. affiliate Cascadia FiberNet Inc., collectively "Cascadia TeleGroup", announced today that it has entered into a construction and financing relationship with Quanta Capital Solutions, Inc., of Houston, Texas, and its affiliate Potelco, Inc., of Washington State, each wholly owned subsidiaries of Quanta Services, Inc.
The initial project will be the Cascadia Fiber Network, which will connect Vancouver, British Columbia and Seattle, Washington with the largest network ever built between the two cities.
Construction is expected to start before the end of 2020 and be completed by late fourth quarter of 2021. This will coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the Peace Arch, an iconic symbol of the long lasting and mutually beneficial relationship between the Province of British Columbia and the State of Washington.
The project will involve the placement of a high-density fiber optic cable backbone from Vancouver's Harbour Centre to the Westin Building Exchange in Seattle. Both locations are the primary internet hubs in their respective cities.
The Cascadia Fibre Network will provide a diverse route at nearly ten times the physical capacity of the existing network which was built in the mid-nineties.
Not only will Cascadia provide express access between Vancouver and Seattle, it will also offer high capacity breakouts for the various underserved smaller communities between the two major cities on both sides of the border.
The ultimate objective is to enable remote high-capacity broadband access to satellite offices of larger companies thereby lessening the pressure on physical transportation infrastructure.
"As part of the Quanta family of companies, Potelco is pleased to work on this important project with the Cascadia TeleGroup team. We look forward to addressing the challenges and opportunities this project brings to the region and completing it to the benefit of all government agencies, businesses and consumers within the Cascadia Corridor on both sides of the border." said Gary Tucci, CEO of Potelco Inc.
"The Cascadia Fibre Network will mark the beginning of explosive and collaborative tech sector growth not only between Vancouver and Seattle, but also, importantly, all the suburban and rural cities and towns within the Cascadia Corridor. Our goal is to enable the delivery of cost effective, high bandwidth Internet access to the Cascadia megaregion and its communities with state-of-the-art fiber connectivity. To this end, Cascadia TeleGroup, is incredibly pleased to have begun hiring American staff and has established a collaborative relationship with Quanta Capital Solutions and Potelco. Their long and established presence here in the Pacific Northwest region makes them a perfect partner for Cascadia TeleGroup." stated CEO and Managing Partner of Cascadia, Ken Thorpe.
