The Valley, CA, April 1, 2021--(T-Net)--C100 announced today its inaugural C100 Fellows Cohort of 21 Canadian-led early-stage startups for their flagship mentorship program, including three BC tech companies.
Penny AI Technologies (Squamish, BC), Faber Technologies (Vancouver, BC), and Snack (Vancouver, BC) were the three BC startups announced (see more details on each company below).
C100's Fellowship program is a significant reboot and expansion of C100's longstanding flagship event, 48Hrs in the Valley, which aims to connect Canada's most promising early-stage entrepreneurs to Canadian leaders in tech globally.
The C100 Fellowship expands the founder experience from that of a 2-day event to that of an 8-month long program involving mentorship with growth-stage founders and expert operators from the C100 community, and peer networking across ecosystems and industries.
Despite moving the program online, C100 says it saw more demand than ever before for the program, with 355 Nominations, a 75% from the year before and over 202 applications, a 55% increase.
The Founders of the three BC startups in the 2021 C100 Fellows Cohort are:
PENNY AI TECHNOLOGIES: SQUAMISH, BC
DAVID ABBEY (CO-FOUNDER & CEO) AND CHRIS NOBLE (CO-FOUNDER & CTO)
Penny is the AI-powered virtual assistant that helps direct sales consultants streamline sales processes, all while providing an excellent customer experience. Penny strengthens customer relationships using data, machine learning, and automation algorithms to create sales processes that inspire action, build momentum, and generate a professional reputation for consultants.
SNACK: VANCOUVER, BC
KIM KAPLAN (FOUNDER & CEO)
Snack is a video-driven dating app -think Tinder meets TikTok- where users share videos of themselves on Snack and match with other users. Snack believes video promotes authenticity, transparency, and trust. Their target audience is Gen Z (18-24 years old) who are interested in building meaningful connections.
FABER TECHNOLOGIES: VANCOUVER, BC
SEBASTIAN JACOB (CO-FOUNDER & CEO) AND JOHN REID (CO-FOUNDER & CRO)

48HRS REBRAND
As C100's largest and longest-standing flagship program, 48Hrs in the Valley, has helped over 300 Canadian-led startups, which today employ over 12,000 people and have cumulatively raised $2.4B+ in equity capital. A few of the many exceptional organizations include; Tulip, Mejuri, Clearbanc, Clutch, Jobber, Snapcommerce, Setter, Applyboard, KOHO, Fellow and more.
48Hrs "in the Valley" didn't quite have the right ring to it anymore when Canada's most entrepreneurs could not be physically brought "to the Valley", which also prompted the question - what does this event now mean in a virtual world? What does "Silicon Valley" mean in a virtual world? Alongside many other businesses that had to pivot in the face of the pandemic over the last 12 months, C100 took this opportunity to expand and enrich the program's offering to founders.
The 48Hrs in the Valley event will now be called "48Hrs" and will serve as the kick-off to the 2021 Fellowship. The removal of "the Valley" is intentional. It marks not only the reality that the C100 will once again gather virtually in 2021, but it is also in recognition of our belief that exceptional Canadian talent and technology is everywhere. With over 40% of C100's members now located in tech hubs outside of Silicon Valley, we feel this reinforces the diversity and vibrancy of our network of mentors, talent, founders and investors contributing to the Fellowship.
