Vancouver-based MedEd Software Platform Developer One45 Acquired by Altus Assessments
Thursday, August 19, 2021
Vancouver, BC, August 19, 2021--(T-Net)--Altus Assessments has announced the acquisition of Vancouver-based One45 and its MedEd software platform which, combined with Altus' research-backed admissions assessments, provides medical schools with the operational tools and end-to-end data analytics they need to run great programs and train better doctors.
As a unified company, Altus and One45 will be able to offer end-to-end solutions that help medical schools and other higher education institutions identify, select, and nurture all students to become exceptional professionals.
These solutions include: research-backed admissions and in-program assessments, near real-time data on student performance that enable earlier and impactful interventions, medical education program management (academic and clinical placement scheduling, curriculum mapping, and assessments), and a robust data warehouse and insights platform that helps drive curriculum improvement and facilitates data gathering to make accreditation easier.
One45 was launched in 2001 and co-founded by Derek Hemmes, John Simms, and the University of British Columbia's Dr. Ric Arseneau. At the time, Dr. Arseneau's Internal Medicine program was generating so much evaluations paperwork that his students and residents were slipping through the cracks of the process. One45 was born from that frustration.
Since then, the company has grown from an evaluation-only system into an end-to-end medical education management platform that provides software tools to drive MedEd operations and fuel the analytics that enable continuous quality improvement. Their software powers the management and operations of 100+ graduate and undergraduate medical education programs around the world.
Brian Clare, CEO, One45
"We're proud of what we've built at One45 and the ways in which we've been helping MedEd programs continuously improve their training and student support," said Brian Clare, CEO of One45. "Joining Altus gives us a meaningful opportunity to be there for programs and learners right from Day 1."
As a unified company, Altus said in a release that it aims to address the highly competitive and stressful nature of medical education, and ultimately contribute to an improved healthcare system where great doctors drive positive patient outcomes.
To do this, Altus will help medical programs select the right applicants in admissions, identify and assist those students that need additional support, and improve their curriculum each year.
This end-to-end service will be possible through their suite of products that work together:
By supporting learners through more of their medical academic journey, Altus says it can create longitudinal data that strengthens their research, outcomes, and validity. For medical programs, the aggregated data can be used for continuous quality improvement, empowering schools to shape the outcomes of their programs.
For learners, Altus says it will offer a fair and standardized opportunity to stand out during the admissions process through its suite of assessments. As they enter training, Altus will continue supporting learners' professional development with formative assessments and insights that help them understand what areas to improve as they pursue their dream.
Rich Emrich, CEO, Altus Assessments
"This is a major step forward for us in building a world served by exceptional professionals," says Rich Emrich, CEO of Altus Assessments. "The combination of these powerful tools will help programs address the learner's entire journey and empower students in their professional development as they pursue their dreams."
Terms of the acquisition have not been released.
