B.C. Joins Growing Number of Governments With Employee TikTok Ban

Vancouver, BC, March 1, 2023--The B.C. government has joined an international trends and banned the TikTok social media app from its employees' work phones "out of an abundance of caution" to avert possible cybersecurity threats.
The ban affects work phones issued by the provincial government to its employees.
The FBI in the U.S. has warned TikTok owner ByteDance could provide TikTok user data to China's authoritarian government, especially since a 2017 China law requires companies to give the government any personal data it considers relevant to the its national security.
