Burnaby, BC, February 18, 2021--Simon Fraser University announced that it is partnering with Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre to advance the cleantech industry in B.C. and beyond. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) announced will focus on shared areas of opportunity in cleantech development through SFU Innovates.

SFU Researchers Developing Neural Network A.I. System to Protect Killer Whales

Burnaby, BC, December 24, 2020--Ruth Joy, a statistical ecologist and lecturer in SFU's School of Environmental Science, is leading a project that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to classify whale calls. The ultimate goal of the neural network project is to develop a warning system to help protect endangered southern resident killer whales from potentially fatal ship strikes.

SFU Study: Mask Mandates Shown to Significantly Reduce Spread of Covid-19

Burnaby, BC, October 23, 2020--A new study by Simon Fraser University (SFU) researchers has found clear evidence that wearing a mask can have a significant impact on the spread of COVID-19.The researchers, from SFU's Department of Economics, have determined that mask mandates are associated with a 25 per cent or larger weekly reduction in COVID-19 cases.
