Vancouver, BC, April 29, 2010--(T-Net)--Donald Casey, CEO of West Wireless Health Institute (WWHI) will be in Vancouver on Thursday, May 27 to deliver a keynote address at VIDWeek 2010 on the current state and future direction of the emerging wireless health industry.
“Wireless health has come a long way in just the last 12 to 18 months, but I expect the pace and the innovation to continue to increase substantially in the years to come,” says Mr. Casey, “One of the key areas to exploreover the next year will be the potential for infrastructure-independent health care. It is critical for organizations worldwide to work together to identify and develop solutions to provide the right care, at the right time, wherever a patient may be.”
According to Mr. Casey, using wireless technology and applications to monitor, diagnose and perhaps in some instances treat health conditions on the fly holds great promise, not just for maintaining or improving health, but also for reducing the costs of delivering health care. These solutions have the potential to reduce or eliminate the need to visit a doctor's office, clinic or health facility for a wide range of non-life-threatening conditions, and ultimately enable continuous monitoring of chronic conditions.
Mr. Casey is excited about being a part of an unprecedented convergence of science, medicine, engineering and technology, which led to his decision to join WWHI as CEO in March. The Institute, founded last year with a $45 million gift from the Gary and Mary West Foundation, is the first nonprofit medical research organization dedicated to cutting the cost of health care by innovating, incubating, validating and commercializing the use of wireless technologies to transform medicine.
VIDWeek 2010 is four days - May 25 to 28 - of partnering opportunities, investment forums, networking, panel discussions, workshops and entertainment, organized by DigiBC, the association representing British Columbia's $3 billion digital media and wireless industry.
Michael Bidu, president of DigiBC, says BC companies are already at the forefront of developing wireless health applications.
“It is a sector that is primed for possibly explosive growth,” says Mr. Bidu. “And we are delighted to have Donald Casey come here to talk to us, since he and West Wireless Health Institute are leaders in wireless health research. We will be listening very closely to what he has to say, especially about the future.”
