Developers to gather in Vancouver for BuildDirect's first Hackathon for Home Improvement
Vancouver, BC, September 9, 2016--(T-Net)-BuildDirect, a leading online marketplace for home improvement products, today announced that it will open a suite of APIs to enable third-party developers to tightly integrate their applications with the BuildDirect platform.
To celebrate, BuildDirect is kicking off its first ever 24-hour Hackathon on September 17h, Hacking Home Improvement. Software application developers from all industries are invited to build exciting new home renovation experiences on top of the BuildDirect platform.
Tal Ball, Chief Technology Officer at BuildDirect
“BuildDirect has a history of service to the home improvement industry - always looking for new ways to connect suppliers, service providers and homeowners,” says Tal Ball, Chief Technology Officer at BuildDirect. “Opening APIs to external developers is a milestone that transforms our platform into a vital resource for driving innovation in the home improvement space.”
Changes to the platform are designed to help suppliers and service providers in the home improvement industry keep up with market demands and assist homeowners who increasingly rely on connected devices to search, shop, and receive home improvement products and services.
At Hacking Home Improvement, developers will gain access to some of BuildDirect's most popular technologies and tools, such as the Design Center and product discoverability (search, user profiles, and ratings and reviews). BuildDirect plans to provide access to more of its capabilities over the coming months, including supply chain and seller services.
“We are excited to unbundle our suite of products and services as we provide open access to our underlying capabilities,” adds Ball. “The people in the home improvement industry need to collaborate and integrate their systems in order to provide better experiences and value to consumers. We're delighted to provide the industry with this disruptive service.”
Hacking Home Improvement is free and open to anyone, but space is limited.
Doors open at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 17th at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver with the Hackathon kicking off at 10:00 a.m. PT and running for 24 hours, ending at 10:00 a.m. PT Sunday.
