Cybersecurity Engineer
(Full-time, exempt)
As a Cybersecurity Engineer, reporting to the Director of Information & Communications Technology (ICT), you will be responsible for coordinating IT security activities to develop and deliver a cybersecurity operations program to protect the school district's networks, systems, equipment and data from attack, damage, or unauthorised access. The position will expand the cyber security awareness program, lead cyber incident response and investigations, and will serve as a security champion in IT and with other school district staff.
As an experienced professional, the Cybersecurity Engineer will contribute and provide guidance in the development of cyber governance and awareness training; and, cyber risk and vendor management.
You are responsible for the implementation of controls to minimize risk in applications, network, cloud, data storage, infrastructure, endpoints and mobile devices. Collaborates with ICT staff and end-users to develop, test, document and implement IT security policies, processes, standards, controls and system improvements to support school district operations.
You will possess strong technical knowledge in Windows and Linux environments, understanding of a variety of technical Cybersecurity technologies, architectures, trends, solutions, practices, and familiarity with implementing these. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products such as Purview and Defender to provide guidance and help implement strong data governance and security to ensure data lifecycle, records management and privacy risk management are appropriately administered in Microsoft 365 to meet organizational goals.
As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you will monitor and enforce cybersecurity practices to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of school district resources and data. You will maintain proper configuration of security tools to support overall system hardening.
You will provide leadership and incident management when responding to cybersecurity threats, collaborate, and coordinate work with external cyber security vendors to complete forensic checks, analysis and mitigation.
You will demonstrate operational and project management skills: planning, coordination, organization, and problem-solving skills; results-focused, team-oriented.
You have excellent oral, written and presentation/facilitation skills, with ability to communicate at all levels within the organization and effectively collaborate with executives, learning services teams, and operational teams.
You handle confidential and/or sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and impartially to ensure compliance with FOIPPA and other privacy and security requirements.
In collaboration with ICT Leadership, you will assess and recommend emerging and current cybersecurity technologies, cost savings, and compliance obligations; contribute to business continuity planning and execution; and provide tactical advice.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is required along with one or more of the following designations:
- Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Information Protection and Compliance Administrator
- CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)
- Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge in both hardware and software, strong analytical approach, and experience with change management (Prosci ADKAR® Model).
