Overview
The Engine Development Engineer (Combustion, Performance & Emissions) is responsible for calibrating the parameters and control maps in the engine ECU to meet customer performance targets and legislated emissions limits, and for conducting engine durability tests according to customer specifications intended to push the engine to its mechanical limits
Position Responsibilities
- Designing and conducting test cell experiments to determine hardware and software specifications
- Designing and conducting test cell and vehicle experiments to optimize calibration parameters
- Conducting test cell durability tests
- Participating in performance and calibration data reviews
- Troubleshooting engine and test cell problems in collaboration with technicians
- Supporting and participating in the engine emissions certification process
- Data analysis and report generation
- Working with other engineering groups to improve fuel system and engine performance
- Working with technicians and facilities staff to maintain a high degree of data quality
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Promote Westport's H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
- Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
- Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative
Position Requirements
Key Requirements
- B.Sc or M.Sc. (Mech. Engineering) or equivalent
- Excellent understanding of diesel engines and emissions reduction technology
- Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition
- Knowledge of statistical techniques for experimentation
- Proficiency in MS Office and Matlab
- Proven ability to learn quickly and initiative for self-improvement
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to work well within a team
- Ability to communicate effectively on technical matters with colleagues, customers, and suppliers
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with strong sense of ownership
- Well-organized and effective at managing time to maximise efficiency
- Willingness to work on afternoon / evening shift when required
Desired Experience
- 1-2 years engineering experience in an automotive environment.
- Experience in verification and validation of new products
Salary Range
This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $60,000 to $85,000. Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
